Knees complain when the demand placed on them outstrips what they are currently prepared for.

The starting point

Understanding what is really going on

Knees complain when the demand placed on them outstrips what they are currently prepared for. Sometimes that is a single traumatic moment. More often it builds gradually through running, stairs, squatting or a change in activity. Knowing which of those you are dealing with changes the plan entirely.

“Josh went above and beyond to make sure I got the correct diagnosis and treatment. What was originally thought to be a hip flexor injury turned out to be a stress fracture.”

Common drivers

What tends to be behind it

No two presentations are the same, which is why the assessment matters more than the label.

Patellofemoral pain

Pain around or behind the kneecap, typically worse on stairs, hills and prolonged sitting. Frequently a load and control issue rather than damage.

Meniscus and cartilage

Often manageable without surgery. What matters is how the knee responds to graded loading, not simply what a scan shows.

Ligament injury

ACL, MCL and other ligament injuries need accurate assessment and a properly structured return to activity.

Tendon related

Patellar and quadriceps tendon pain respond to specific progressive loading, and poorly to rest alone.

How we work

What treatment actually looks like

Accurate diagnosis first

Clinical testing to establish exactly which structure is involved and, just as importantly, which are not.

Reduce the irritation

Short term load management and hands on treatment so the knee calms enough to begin rebuilding.

Progressive loading

The part most rehab skips. Structured strengthening that restores genuine capacity through the knee, hip and ankle.

Return to what you want to do

Whether that is running, football, the gym or stairs without thinking about it, the plan works backwards from your goal.

FAQs

Knee Pain: common questions

Do I need a scan for knee pain?
Frequently not. Scans commonly show age related changes present in people with no pain at all. Clinical assessment usually gives a clearer picture of what is driving symptoms.
Can I still run with knee pain?
Often yes, with modification. Complete rest tends to reduce capacity further. The assessment establishes what dose your knee currently tolerates.
How long does runner's knee take to settle?
With appropriate loading, meaningful improvement is common within four to eight weeks.
Do you offer post surgery rehab?
Yes, including after ACL reconstruction, meniscal surgery and knee replacement.
