The starting point

Understanding what is really going on

Sports and deep tissue massage delivered by a specialist musculoskeletal physiotherapist. That distinction matters. You get skilled hands on treatment, and you also get someone qualified to tell you why the tension keeps returning and what to do about it.

“Had a deep tissue massage and the difference was huge. Slept better and had significantly less pain the next day.”

Common drivers

What tends to be behind it

No two presentations are the same, which is why the assessment matters more than the label.

Deep tissue massage

Sustained, focused pressure through deeper muscle layers to release long standing tension and restriction.

Sports massage

Targeted work for training, competition and recovery, whether you are preparing, recovering or in the middle of a block.

Soft tissue release

Specific techniques for tight, overloaded tissue that is limiting movement and comfort.

Myofascial and trigger point

Addressing referred pain patterns and fascial restriction that often sit behind stubborn symptoms.

How we work

What treatment actually looks like

A quick assessment first

Even for a massage appointment, we take a few minutes to understand what has been going on. It changes where the time is best spent.

Focused hands on work

The session is directed by what the assessment found, not a routine applied to everyone.

Advice that lasts

You will leave knowing why the area keeps tightening and what will actually change it.

Progress it if you want to

If the same area keeps returning, there is usually an underlying capacity issue worth addressing properly.

FAQs

Sports and Deep Tissue Massage: common questions

What is the difference between sports massage and deep tissue?
Sports massage is generally geared around training and recovery, deep tissue focuses on sustained pressure through deeper layers to release long standing tension. In practice we combine both based on what you need.
Does it hurt?
It can be intense in places but should never be unbearable. Pressure is always adjusted to what works for you.
Do I need to be an athlete?
Not at all. Most of the people we see are dealing with desk based tension, general stiffness or simply want to move more comfortably.
How often should I come?
Some people benefit from regular maintenance every four to six weeks. Others need a short course to settle something specific. We will be honest with you about which applies.
